My aim is to empower parents and give them the confidence and tools to be able to cope with everyday issues.

During my career I have worked extensively with 0-5 year olds, parents and carers, in both one-to-one and group situations. I specialise in managing and coordinating activities and events such as PEEP (supporting children’s learning), baby sign, baby and toddler yoga, little chefs and children’s art groups.

Activities involve parents in their children's development, suggesting ways in which they can support early learning experiences, while at the same time having fun!

I can also assist with everyday issues including, tantrums, sleep problems, toilet training, fussy eating and language delay, to more severe behavioural issues and helping parents to cope with medical diagnoses e.g. autism, and various learning difficulties.

I value parents’/carers’ knowledge and experience of their children, I use this as a starting point and build on it by offering ideas and information. The wide range of play and learning activities I teach (or have designed) are to support the holistic development of young children whether physical, creative, intellectual, spiritual or social.

My experience as a child practitioner spans 15 years since qualifying with a BTEC National Diploma. I have managed a 70-place nursery and most recently spent 5 years as a family link worker for Surestart* in the UK.

Through my work for Surestart, I have years of experience in leading interactive sessions in the Early Years setting.

I am also fully trained in the practical application of recognised behavioural techniques such as Webster Stratton, Triple P and Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA).

I have been living in Palma de Mallorca since 2005 and working as a private Paediatric Occupational Therapist, treating children with developmental delay, specific illnesses, problems as a result of premature birth and handwriting difficulties.

A particular area of interest for me is developing fine motor skills to prepare a child for writing skills needed at school age, and so making sure that “getting ready for school” is a fun experience.

I firmly believe that early intervention is the key to children succeeding in later years, whether they have a specific diagnosis or simply a delay in an area of development. As an Occupational Therapist I can provide ideas to help your child reach his/her milestones or coping strategies if they are struggling to keep up with their peers.

My experience in working with children spans 15 years after graduating from Oxford Brookes University in 1996 with a Bsc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy. I worked in the Central Remedial Clinic, Dublin, Ireland for almost 10 years with children from birth to 18 years who had a variety of physical disabilities including Cerebral Palsy, muscle disorders, developmental delay, and difficulties as a result of premature birth.

In 2005 I worked on a project in conjunction with the Dublin local health authority assessing children for developmental delay which led to the formation of a designated team to treat those children.

I have completed several training courses such as the Bobath Neurodevelopmental Therapy, Bayley Developmental Assessment, and Health Administration course.

I have had over 15 years experience working in the sector of Women and Child Health, both in hospital and community environments, in people’s homes, clinics and schools. I am a qualified Registered General Nurse, School Nurse, Registered Midwife, have a Bsc (Hons) in Specialist Community Practitioner- Health Visiting, and a Family Planning and Sexual Health Nurse.

Over 20 years of working within the NHS (UK) has made me realize that the greatest way to empower people is through communication and knowledge. The same can be said about pregnancy, childbirth and parenting.

As a midwife, it has always been especially important to ensure that there is informed choice. Everyone has the right to have a safe and enjoyable pregnancy, as well as the delivery of their choosing. This may not always be case. However, with information and extra support, there is an opportunity to reduce anxiety and increase understanding of the situation. I believe that I can provide the bridge to cover the gap in services provided presently by the current health systems (public and private).

Antenatal classes to prepare for labour, discuss the different types of delivery, preparation for breastfeeding, how to bottle feed safely, parentcraft- how to attend to your baby’s basic daily needs, are just some of the services I offer.

Postnatally, with a combined experience of midwifery, health visiting and nurse prescriber, I can offer continued support, postnatal depression assessment, as well as weekly baby groups, where parents can have the opportunity to meet other parents, have their baby weighed, discuss development, weaning, teething, vaccinations, and begin the early stages of learning through play.
